Rooted in Grace: A Christ-Centered Autumn Brunch at Arbor Christian Fellowship
A Beautiful Afternoon of Fellowship, Worship, and Encouragement for Women of All Ages
Though the weather outside was warm—classic Southern California in October, with sunshine and temperatures in the 80s—inside the fellowship hall of Arbor Christian Fellowship, it felt like fall had truly arrived.
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, the church’s Women’s Ministry hosted its annual “Rooted in Grace: Ladies’ Autumn Brunch,” welcoming women of all ages for a beautifully orchestrated afternoon of worship, fellowship, laughter, prayer, and encouragement. The result? A sacred space that reflects the heart of the season—cozy, abundant, and full of God’s grace.
A Personal and Warm Welcome
The event opened with heartfelt words from Linda Baldwin, Arbor’s faithful Women’s Ministry Director, whose warm presence set the tone for the afternoon. She made each guest feel known and loved, and shared a special personal update: her granddaughter, missionary Allyson Roestorf, is expecting a much-anticipated baby boy this November or December. The room rejoiced together in this new chapter of life and legacy.
Worship That Centered the Room
Worship leader Christine Dickinson, Head of the Performing Arts Department at Heritage Christian School, brought a deeply moving time of praise. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, her genuine, Spirit-led worship helped turn every heart toward the Lord and created an atmosphere of peace and reverence.
A Feast Made with Love
The fellowship hall, adorned with autumn colors and cozy touches, was filled with the sounds of laughter and clinking silverware as women enjoyed a lovingly prepared meal. The menu was both comforting and festive: croissant sandwiches, savory soups, fresh salads, seasonal fruits, warm biscuits with made-from-scratch gravy, pasta dishes, and a table full of pumpkin pie, dainty desserts, and spiced apple cider. It was a true feast—prepared with love and shared with joy.
Looking Ahead: Christmas with a Gospel Purpose
Before transitioning to the lighter moments of the afternoon, Lou Cobb shared an exciting update on Arbor’s involvement with Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. She reminded the group that each shoebox packed is more than a gift—it’s a tool for sharing the Gospel with children around the world. This year’s church-wide goal was met with enthusiasm as women committed to bringing light and joy to children in need during the upcoming holiday season.
A Lighthearted Lesson with a Lasting Message
Bringing laughter and smiles to the room, Elizabeth Johnson presented a delightful and visual object lesson titled “How Christians Are Like Pumpkins.” With a real pumpkin in hand, she walked the group through a powerful analogy: how God picks us, cleans us out, carves us with purpose, and fills us with His light. It was a creative and heartfelt message that added a touch of fun and brought spiritual truth to life in a memorable way.
A Cherished Time of Prayer
The mood gently shifted as Tina Johnson led the women in a treasured tradition: intercessory prayer for missionaries with birthdays that day. Many missionaries—especially those with the International Mission Board (IMB) and North American Mission Board (NAMB)—plan impactful ministry events on their birthdays, knowing they are being covered in prayer across the globe. The moment was reverent and powerful, connecting each woman in the room to the global work of the Gospel.
From Prayer to the Front Lines: A Missionary’s Story
After praying for missionaries, the women were blessed to hear from one directly. Marie Schultz, an IMB missionary serving in North Africa and the Middle East, shared her story with grace and authenticity. She spoke about her and her husband’s ministry among a varied demographic of people groups, the challenges they face, and the unmistakable ways God has shown up again and again. Her testimony was a beautiful reminder of God's faithfulness—and a call to continue supporting missions through prayer, giving, and going.
Autumn, Even in 80 Degrees
Though Southern California’s leaves won’t turn until December, fall came alive inside the fellowship hall. Through worship, warm food, joyful fellowship, creative teaching, and heartfelt sharing, the “Rooted in Grace” brunch became a true celebration of what it means to be women grounded in Christ.
As the women of Arbor Christian Fellowship departed, they did so with full hearts, strengthened spirits, and a fresh awareness that grace is not just a season—it’s our foundation.
