A Joyful Start to a New Season: Awana Kickoff Night Welcomes Children and Families
Church family gathers for an exciting launch of the new Awana year, complete with worship, Scripture, games, and the debut of Trek for middle school students.
Wednesday, September 3rd was a vibrant and meaningful evening at our church as we celebrated the start of a new year of Awana—a ministry dedicated to helping children know, love, and serve Jesus Christ through Scripture memory, biblical teaching, and high-energy fun. From toddlers to teens, the building was filled with excitement, anticipation, and the joy of new beginnings.
The evening began with a warm and welcoming family dinner at 6 p.m., giving parents and children a chance to sit down together and enjoy a meal before diving into the night’s activities. It was a simple but powerful reminder of the role that community and connection play in discipleship.
At 6:30 p.m., the heart of the evening began with the Awana opening ceremony. Children, leaders, and families gathered for a time of shared purpose and unity, beginning with salutes to both the American flag and the Awana flag. Sweet, little voices filled the air in singing the Awana anthem, a declaration of commitment to God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15) and His truth. Announcements followed, laying out the vision and excitement for the year ahead, and the time concluded with prayer, asking for God’s blessing and guidance over the children, leaders, and families participating in Awana this year.
From there, each age group was dismissed with their own club theme song—a fun and spirited tradition that sets the tone for the night’s activities. Whether headed to Cubbies, Sparks, T&T, or Trek, every child left the sanctuary with a sense of purpose and belonging.
Once in their clubs, the children engaged in a full and lively evening of Scripture memory, Bible teaching, and interactive games. Awana’s mission is simple yet powerful: to help kids hide God’s Word in their hearts, equipping them to carry it with them through every season of life. From game time to small-group study, every activity is designed to make Scripture come alive in age-appropriate and meaningful ways.
A highlight of this year’s kickoff was the launch of Trek, a new club for 7th and 8th grade students. Trek carries forward Awana’s core objective—teaching Scripture and applying biblical truth—while offering middle schoolers the space to grow deeper in their faith, ask questions, and build strong, Christ-centered friendships. It's a key step in preparing students to stand firm in their beliefs and live out their faith with confidence.
The night was, above all, a celebration of what God is doing in the lives of our children. It set the tone for a year of spiritual growth, joyful fellowship, and lasting impact.
Awana meets every Wednesday night with family dinner at 6 p.m., followed by club time from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. There is room for every child to grow, explore their faith, and become part of something truly life-changing.
As we step into this new season, we do so with gratitude, expectation, and joy—watching as God’s Word takes root in the hearts of the next generation.
