Digging Into the Truth: An Unforgettable Vacation Bible School Week at Arbor Christian Fellowship

A week of joyful discovery, biblical adventure, and unforgettable memories as children dig deep to seek truth and find Jesus

From July 21st through 25th, Arbor Christian Fellowship’s sanctuary was transformed into a bustling archaeological dig site as children took part in one of the most memorable and joyful weeks of the year—Vacation Bible School (VBS) 2025. With this year’s theme, Destination Dig, the church came alive with the sounds of laughter, worship, discovery, and celebration as children embraced their role as junior archaeologists, digging deep into Scripture and uncovering the truth of God’s Word.

Throughout the week, the sanctuary was filled with eager, energetic children and a team of passionate volunteers. Each day began with vibrant worship music that had the entire room dancing and singing. Children eagerly learned and recited Bible verses, actively engaged in prayer, and fully immersed themselves in lessons and activities. At the heart of the week was the theme verse: “You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:13 (CSB). This scripture served as a guiding truth as the children explored the Bible and strengthened their relationship with Jesus.

In keeping with the archaeological theme, the children explored the history behind Biblical locations and artifacts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, the caves of Qumran, the Pool of Siloam, the steps of Caiaphas, and the rolling gravestone—offering a powerful visual reminder of Christ’s resurrection. These lessons brought the Bible to life, helping children connect Scripture with history in a tangible, meaningful way. Equipped with their own Bibles, children highlighted, tabbed, and learned how to navigate God’s Word with confidence and curiosity.

The week was filled with creativity, fun, and fellowship. Children enjoyed themed snacks, active outdoor games, scavenger hunts, and—always a favorite—amazing crafts. From start to finish, there were constant smiles and contagious joy. Even those who arrived feeling shy or hesitant quickly found their place, jumping into every activity with growing enthusiasm.

The children’s passion extended beyond the church walls, particularly in their commitment to missions. Throughout the week, they learned about missionaries serving around the globe (including missionary Allyson Roestorf in South Africa, Christ the Messiah School in Cameroon, and Christ’s Community Baptist Mission in the Philippines) and raised funds to support their work, demonstrating a beautiful spirit of generosity and global awareness.

A new feature this year was the Israeli Shekels Shop, a fun and faith-filled reward station where children redeemed tickets they had earned by memorizing scripture. The prizes, carefully curated to reflect the week’s theme, included International Mission Board (IMB) swag, missionary biographies, archaeological artifacts, scripture bracelets, and more. The Shekels Shack added a layer of excitement and purpose, reinforcing both biblical literacy and the value of missions.

Friday brought the highly anticipated grand finale. After a joyful Water Day filled with splash zones, games, and laughter. The excitement peaked when the children discovered they had surpassed their missions goal. Their reward? A VBS tradition in the making: several of their Guides faced off, using rock, paper, scissors to see who would get pied in the face! The room exploded with laughter and cheers as whipped cream flew and joy overflowed. It was the perfect, lighthearted celebration to close out a week rich with spiritual impact and lasting memories.

At Arbor Christian Fellowship, VBS is more than a summer tradition—it’s a transformative experience. Children are invited not only to learn and grow, but to encounter Jesus in personal and lasting ways. This year, through every Bible lesson, every song, every craft, every snack, every smile, and every splash, they truly did just that.

We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers, families, and especially the children who made Destination Dig such an overwhelming success. It was, as many called it, “the best week ever”—and we’re basking in God’s glory for what lies ahead.
