Drive-In Delight at Arbor Christian Fellowship: A Night of Faith, Film and Cardboard Cars

Hand-Crafted Cardboard Cars, Popcorn, and the Story of David Inspire Courage, Faith and Joy at Awana’s Annual Drive-In Night

There are evenings that sparkle long after the credits roll—and last night at Arbor Christian Fellowship was one of them.

Earlier in the day, one little girl carefully pressed down the last bits of glue and tape on her cardboard car, making sure every detail was just right. Final touches mattered. The anticipation had been building for days. The children were sooooo excited for the evening—the Awana Drive-in Movie Night is a special event they look forward to all year long.

Other parents shared photos of freshly finished cars, glitter still drying, markers uncapped on the kitchen table. Messages came in describing wide smiles, eager countdowns and children asking, “Is it time yet?” The excitement was contagious long before anyone arrived at church.

Cardboard Creativity Rolled In

By the time families gathered in the Fellowship Hall, it was clear: the hard work was about to pay off.

The children came carrying their own, self-made cardboard box cars—creations imagined and built by their little hands (with a bit of help from family for some of the youngest). Each one reflected time, effort and whimsical creativity.

And what a lineup it was!

A cardboard Lamborghini.
A stealth bomber.
Cars with real license plates and lights.
A bold Spider-Man-themed ride.
Vehicles with roofs and working doors.
Adorable child-made art covering the sides.
Even a tiny school bus that charmed everyone who saw it.

So much variety. So much imagination.

No two box cars were alike—each one special, just like the children themselves. Hand-crafted from simple materials. And the children? Handcrafted by God.

From Cubbies to Sparks to T&T (Truth & Training), each Awana class was represented. The delight on their faces as they carefully “parked” their creations inside the Fellowship Hall was priceless.

Concessions & Celebration

Awana Commander Robert Lopez embraced the theme with joy, dressing like a movie concessions attendant. Awana Trekkers (7th–8th graders) helped serve fresh popcorn popped in a real popcorn machine—prepared with coconut oil, raw kernels and the perfect touch of seasoning, lovingly made by Miss Alison, Miss Tina and Miss Aubrie.

Juice boxes were handed out. Popcorn rustled. Laughter echoed.

A special thank you to all the wonderful helpers who lovingly prepared, served and cleaned up after the snacks. Their behind-the-scenes faithfulness helped the evening flow smoothly.

The Message of David

The featured film—DAVID, created by Sunrise Animation Studios—brought the epic story of David and Goliath to life in a way that truly engaged the children.

Before the movie began, Pastor Jonathan led everyone in prayer and shared a powerful reminder: David’s bravery wasn’t about strength or size. It was about trust.

Quoting 1 Samuel 17:45–46, he reminded the children:

“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty…”

David’s confidence came from knowing who God is—His might, His grandeur, His proven faithfulness. The Creator of Heaven and earth stood with him. And as Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

The same God who strengthened David strengthens us.

You could see it in the children’s faces. They weren’t just watching a story—they were absorbing truth.

A Prayer Over the Night

At Awana, the mission is to help children learn Scripture, memorize it and store it in their hearts. Last night reflected that heart beautifully.

It was obvious the kids had an incredible time. Sweet memories were made. Laughter was shared. Faith was strengthened.

And as the evening came together so seamlessly, one prayer echoed quietly in many hearts:

Lord, may You be honored by our work tonight. May You be glorified in the serving of these children—Your children. In Jesus’ name.

What a blessed night. What a joy to witness. Praise God for every detail, every smile and every seed of truth planted deep within young hearts.
