Greater Love: A Valentine’s Evening Rooted in John 15:12–13
A joyful night of fellowship marking our first Valentine’s Dinner with Pastor Jonathan as our official pastor.
On Saturday evening, February 14, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m., the fellowship hall at Arbor Christian Fellowship was filled with twinkle lights, laughter, and the unmistakable aroma of Italian cuisine as our church family gathered for a truly memorable Valentine’s Dinner. Guests were warmly welcomed at the door by the lovely Beverly Dickson, whose cheerful smile and gracious greeting immediately made everyone feel at home and set the tone for the evening.
This year’s celebration was especially meaningful—it was our very first Valentine’s Dinner as a church with Pastor Jonathan serving as our official pastor. From the moment guests arrived, it was evident that this is an Acts 2 church. Every table setting, every plate served, and every note sung reflected the care and love poured into the preparation and presentation of the evening.
The menu featured delicious Italian fare that delighted everyone in attendance, including a standout favorite: Mike Stringer’s rich and hearty homemade meatball soup. Warm, flavorful, and made with evident care, it was the perfect beginning to a cozy February evening and quickly became a highlight of the meal. Guests were also treated to delicious gluten-free cuisine and dessert, lovingly homemade by talented young mama, Melissa Baker—thoughtfully prepared so that everyone could fully enjoy the sweetness of the evening. As friends and families dined together, the room was serenaded with the smooth, classic stylings reminiscent of Frank Sinatra—though we were quick to clarify that the voice behind the microphone was none other than our own talented Deacon Greg Wideen. His performances added warmth and charm to the evening, transporting us to a simpler, sweeter time.
The music continued with beautiful harmonies from The Arbor Angels—The Coles sisters—who were joined for a special encore with cousins and friends. Their straight-scripture song (thank you, Awana!) joyfully pointed our hearts toward the truth of Christ’s love, described in John 15:12–13:
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
We were also blessed by special musical numbers from Charley Troxel and again by Deacon Greg Wideen, each performance adding to the spirit of love and gratitude that filled the room.
Pastor Jonathan set the tone for the evening with a heartfelt opening prayer. Later, he shared a meaningful message about the enduring love God has for us—a love far deeper and more faithful than the fleeting idea of having a different Valentine each year. He reminded us that Christlike love is steadfast, sacrificial and life-giving.
Indeed, that love is something Pastor Jonathan and his wonderful wife, Ruth, along with their children—Levi, Isaiah, Rudy, and Sammy—have modeled so beautifully. Their selfless generosity and willing service to our church family have truly lived out John 15:12–13. We are deeply grateful for the way they pour themselves into this congregation.
A tremendous thank you goes to Deacon Liles Cobb and his wife, Lou, for their leadership, direction, and continuous love and service. Their behind-the-scenes dedication helped make the evening seamless and special.
And of course, we cannot forget our outstanding event emcee, Elizabeth Johnson. With wit, warmth, and wonderful humor, she kept smiles on everyone’s faces throughout the night. From hosting games to entertaining attendees and leading the lively auction, she brought energy and joy to every moment. The auction featured creative date-night packages, the ever-popular “Muscle Movers” package, and, to no one’s surprise, enthusiastic bidding for Liles’ famous strawberry pie!
The evening was made visually stunning by the generous and talented Tina Johnson, whose lovely and festive decorations—thoughtfully and creatively arranged—transformed the space into an elegant and welcoming setting that added joy and celebration to our February gathering.
By the end of the evening, it was clear this was more than just a dinner. It was a celebration of love—shared between spouses, parents and children, family and friends; lived out in service; and above all, the enduring, sacrificial love of Christ that binds us together as one. What a beautiful beginning to this new year at Arbor Christian Fellowship. If this Valentine’s Dinner is any indication, the Lord is doing something truly special in our midst—and we are blessed to be part of it.
